Is your New York State lincense plate peeling? Well, you’re definitely not alone.
Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns said people are showing up at auto bureaus state-wide because their license plates are peeling. He said a defect in an older batch of plates is causing them to peel.
He’s not making it a priority to get the word out that with a little paper work, auto bureaus will replace the tags for free.
“It’s no cost to the consumer. However, I am very concerned that these plates are peeling. Because obviously it’s very important for law enforcement,” Kearns said.
A spokesperson with State Police tells us some law enforcement agencies are ticketing vehicles for not replacing these peeling plates. However, they are issuing court summons on a case by case basis.
