River Road on ramp to I-90 north closes May 15th

Posted

The River Road entrance ramp to the Niagara Thruway in Tonawanda will be temporarily closed on May 15th, according to the New York State Thruway Authority.

The I-90 north ramp closure will be part of the process to remove toll barriers, following the transition to cashless tolls at Grand Island.

During the temporary closure, all traffic looking to enter I-90 north from exit 17 (Tonawanda -- River Road) will be detoured south on Grand Island Boulevard and directed to enter 1-90 at exit 16 (Tonawanda -- I-290).

Four weeks is about how long the closure is expected to last.

The exit 17 off-ramp will stay open during this time period.

The River Road interchange handles at least 5,200 vehicles per day.
