Salamanca Schools are closed Monday after the passing of a staff member over the weekend.

Superintendent Bob Breidenstein says Nelson Beard, a sixth grade teacher at Seneca Elementary School, died unexpectedly in Olean.

Olean Police say Beard's body was found by his landlord at 455 Martha Avenue, Apartment A in Olean.

Oficers are investigating Beard's death as an "unattended death." They say at this point there is no reason to believe the death is suspicious.

Police say an autopsy was ordered Monday.

Crisis Teams are reaching out to the families of the students who worked closely with Mr. Beard. Crisis Team members will be available from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday and throughout the rest of the week for students, parents and staff members who need help dealing with this loss.

Seneca Nation Allegany offices remain open. Staff was asked to report to the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium at 8:00 a.m.
