State Senator Robert Ortt is requesting disaster aid for the business community that lost everything in the Lockport fire earlier this month.
Ortt sent a letter to officials at the United States Small Business Administration, saying, in part, "Now that first responders from 50 fire companies extinguished the fire and police and fire officials are investigating the suspecting arson, I request that the Small Business Administration (SBA) conduct a preliminary damage assessment."
"Nearby establishments suffered a tremendous loss and I’m working to ensure that all levels of government assistance be provided to affected parties. It is my hope that the SBA is able to help in the community’s recovery."
The fire leveled the High Tred International industrial business, a tire recycling plant in Lockport.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, but sources tell 7 Eyewitness News an arson arrest is expected in this case.
