Valerie Day is a resource coordinator at the Restoration Society, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless. She says"we take people who are in the crisis of homelessness and we try to get them housed."
Valerie says the work is challenging but her "co-workers are the best." The challenges she faces at work, helping the homeless, pale in comparison to her own past challenges.
"I was in a household where there was sexual trauma, I've been through two marriages, I have lost children to the system, I've gotten them back and they are all grown now" Valerie says, adding "I've experienced homelessness in Buffalo twice, but I pulled through, I'm familiar with how the system works."
It's Valerie's determination to push through her set backs tht she will be honored for at the third annual Courage To Come Back." awards celebration at Samuels Grand Manor Thursday October 18th.
While courage has been a big factor in Valerie Day's life, she says there was something else that made a big difference for her "returning to my faith-that was the biggest piece for me."
