It's not an easy task especially on a blustery day like today. But it's a task that Ruth Smith takes seriously. She has been delivering Meals on Wheels to South Buffalo residents for 17 years. Ruth is a welcome sight to people who can't get out.

Ruth's daughter Roberta is her driver. Once a week they pick up the meals at the community center, pack up the car and the head out for their run. Ruth's parents used to get Meals on Wheels and says that's what got her started with the organization. She says "they did so much for my Mom and Dad, I thought I would try it, and I loved it."

Ruth recently turned 90 which means that some of the clients she delivers to are younger than she is. With Meals on Wheels, age is not an issue, they are always looking for more volunteers. You may find younger volunteers than Ruth Smith, but you won't find any more dedicated.

Meals on Wheels serves more than a million meals each year in Western New York. For more information and details on how to volunteer in your community, you can visit their website
