A big season is on the way at Shea's Performing Arts Center. The historic Buffalo theatre announced its upcoming season Tuesday evening.
Get ‘On Your Feet,’ Western New York. The new musical based on the life and music of Gloria and Emilio Estefan mambos onto the stage at Shea’s in September to kick off the M&T Bank 2017-2018 Broadway Series.
‘The Bodyguard,’ based on the hit movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, will light up the Shea’s stage in October.
Other musicals set to make their Buffalo debuts include the Broadway blockbuster ‘Waitress,’ a new musical with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, the musical comedy ‘Something Rotten,’ and two shows written by Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber - ‘School of Rock’ and ‘Love Never Dies,’ the latter of which is the sequel to Webber’s ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’
And speaking of Phantom, it will return to downtown Buffalo as a special engagement, as will ‘The Lion King.’ Both are still going strong on Broadway years after their debuts.
