According to Syracuse Fire Chief Paul Linnertz. the fire started at 4 a.m. Friday morning.
It happened at 211 Martin Street, between Cadillac Street and Lemoyne Avenue in Syracuse.
The chief says the firefighters' efforts were hampered when a porch roof collapsed during the fire.
Chief Linnertz said eight people lived in the home and seven of them were home when the fire happened. Only one escaped. Firefighters found two victims downstairs and the other four upstairs.
Linnertz said the eight people are members of the same family, but it is unclear right now how they are all related.
