Stolen urn returned to owner after being found 45 miles away in a pothole

It's a tiny golden urn that has been on a long journey, and thanks to the determination of one Western New York family, it's back home.

The urn holds the remains of Tasha Dixon's angel, her son Ameer, who was stillborn in 2014. Dixon's family prays with the urn and kisses it each night and were devastated when they say someone stole it from their Buffalo home in early April.

"I looked all around and I just knew he wasn't there," said Dixon.

She says she had some work done in her home, and when the maintenance staff left, the urn was gone.

"They probably thought it was gold... it's heavy," she said. "It's priceless to us, and no amount of money in the world is worth them taking it."

More than 45 miles away in Medina, the Moyer family was looking for Dixon. During his morning coffee run on July 1st, Terry Moyer spotted something shiny in a pothole and stopped to check it out.

"He found it lying sideways in the pothole," said Terry's wife Paula. "He was really upset when he came home and said, 'I don't know what to do.'"

The discovery hit close to home. The Moyers lost their son Terry in a car accident in 2011, and proudly wear his ashes around their necks each day.

"The love that we have for the loss of our son... I couldn't imagine," said Paula. "It's like yesterday. It doesn't ever go away."

These two families, who are united by tragedy, have become fast friends.

"I just can't thank my heroes enough," Dixon said. "I love you guys."
