New York conservation officials have established a toll-free hotline for reporting poachers and polluters across the state.
Staffed around the clock by a Department of Environmental Conservation police dispatcher, Commissioner Joe Martens says it will help officers respond quickly to wildlife and environmental crimes.
The department has 278 officers deployed across New York's 62 counties, and says they patrol by vehicle, boat or on foot.
Among their arrests are poachers who shoot wild animals from a highway, people who illegally burn or dump waste and those who possess endangered species.
The number is 1-844-332-3267.
The Adirondack Almanack reports the DEC is trying to determine who shot and killed a young moose in the Adirondack town of Newcomb two weeks ago.
Killing a moose is a misdemeanor in New York.
