Sweet preparations for Maple Weekend

The maple syrup is flowing in East Concord
Posted

Marty Wendel was just a kid the first time he tasted real maple syrup. He says after that  he was "hooked and wanted to know all about it." His passion for making maple syrup continued into adulthood, so recently Marty and his son Nick built a state-of-the-art sugar shack.

The sugar shack pumps out gallons of what Marty calls "the first crop of the season" as well as other maple products. Marty says " we wanted to make something that the people who come out and see and experience the whole process."

For Maple Weekend there will be plenty of sampling, lots of maple products for sale and always great information from Marty Wendel who is still passionate about maple syrup.

Down the road from Wendel's is Mary's Fireside Inn. Mary Marlow and her children Julianna and Nick have created a whole menu celebrating maple syrup which includes wings with a maple garlic glaze, rib eye steak with a bourbon maple cream sauce, maple cream pie and the big seller is maple salmon. According to Mary "we can't keep it in."
