Tesla's Elon Musk may possibly add SolarCity to the list of companies he already owns. This isn't the first gamble the science-minded businessman has made in his life.
Musk was born in South Africa. By the time he was 10, he taught himself how to program computers. He moved to the states, where he obtained a degree in both business and physics from the University of Pennsylvania. Musk moved to California to get a Ph.D in physics from Stanford University.
He eventually dropped out and started up his own company, Zip2 Corporation, a company that gave content to websites such as New York Times and Chicago Tribune. Musk would eventually sell his company to Compaq Computer Corporation for $307 million dollars.
Musk would go on to start up other companies such as SpaceX (2002) and Tesla (2003). According to Forbes.com, Musk is worth an estimated $11.7 billion.
