Cows, snowflakes, superheroes and many, many turkeys trotted from the YMCA on Deleware Avenue to the finish line at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, for the 123 Annual YMCA Turkey Trot.
“It’s an amazing event, a great way to give back to the community, it’s a testament to the community’s spirit in Western New York," Buffalo YMCA Communications Director, Geoff Falkner says.
The race featured 14,000 registered participants racing more than $300,000 for underprivileged youth who cannot afford YMCA programs like summer camp.
“Just the camaraderie, everybody out here, there’s a lot of energy, even when it’s 14 degrees or whatever it is, but I’ll tell you what it feels good," Syd Seitz says, who's ran the Turkey Trot 15 times.
The overall winner and fastest male Chad Maloy, finished the 8k (five mile) race in 23 minutes 40 seconds. The fasted female, Alexandra Cadicamo, finished in 28 minutes flat.
