They're talented, energetic, and look fabulous in Hawaiian shirts. These are the members of the Carnival Kids Steel Drum Orchestra based at Lancaster High School.
The group is one of the oldest school steel drum programs in the nation. It was launched back in 1974 and has been going strong ever since.
Today, the orchestra has more than 30 young musicians, ranging in age from 8th thru 12th grade.
During its more than 40 year history, the Carnival Kids have produced several CDs and have traveled extensively. This past Easter, the crew headed to the Grand Ole Opry, in Nashville, Tennessee performing outside the legendary venue.
The orchestra performs roughly 40 times a year in venues across the state, and this summer is setting up to be a busy one for the young musicians. To catch them live, click here to check out their summer concert series.
