For the first time in the history of the Navy, a new ship will be commissioned beside its namesake, and it's happening right here in Buffalo.

The new USS Little Rock sailed into the Queen City early Monday morning, and hundreds of Western New Yorkers headed out to see the ship come into its temporary Canalside home.

"You don't see something like this every day here," said Buffalo resident Christopher Caughell. "It's great to come out and just recognize all the service people and see some great American innovation that's coming in."

Navy Veteran and Buffalo native Paul Enser served on the original Little Rock and he says the ceremonies being held in Buffalo are a win for everyone involved.

"It's great for Buffalo, it's great for the Navy and it's great for all the people that served on the Little Rock, as well as the people who will serve on the new Little Rock it's just a great event."

The Little Rock will be commissioned in Buffalo on Saturday, December 16th.  You can find a full list of scheduled events here.
