Husband and wife entrepreneurs Jacob and Jennifer Wankasky needed some more space for their antiques market. So they moved from a 2500 square foot place in Pendleton to 6500 square feet in North Tonawanda. Where do you get that kind of space? By leasing an old church of course.
The couple moved into what used to be Ascension Church on Robinson Road in North Tonawanda. They call the business The Old Chapel Antique and Artisan Market. With more than fifty vendors, the place is packed with beautiful antiques and lots of new merchandise too just in time for holiday shoppers.
While the old place has been transformed into a shoppers paradise, it still looks a lot like a church with lovely stained glass windows, classic church architecture and there's even an old pipe organ in the choir loft. Jacob grew up near here and, for him, moving into the old church is a homecoming. He says "I was baptized in this church, my parents were married here and I was an alter boy here for five or six years."
