A 16-year-old is under arrest, accused of sending the Newfane School District into lockout mode on Monday.

Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies say it all started when an 8th grade student at Newfane Middle School received a text message by the 16-year-old student making reference to having a gun.

Investigators say the teen who made the threat was at his home at the time.

That student is now charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident and Aggravated Harassment. The student was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

The teen is expected back in Newfane Town Court on Tuesday.
