Tonawanda man arrested after driving stolen truck into Ellicott Creek

A City of Tonawanda faces felony charges after stealing a pickup truck and driving it into Ellicott Creek on Saturday just after 9 a.m.

Police report 43-year-old Benjamin Stanley of Highland Avenue in Tonawanda stole the 2012 Chevy Silverado from an ex-girlfriend's driveway in North Tonawanda. 

Witnesses told police that Stanley "aimed the truck toward the creek," drove the vehicle into the water, got out and walked away. 

The vehicle was still running in the water when police arrived. Stanley was found a half-mile away on Daniel Drive off of Ellicott Creek. 

He's charged with criminal possession of stolen property, attempted criminal mischief, attempt to destroy physical evidence and other vehicle and traffic charges.
