A town court justice who pretended to be a lawyer to help a suspect who was charged with driving drunk is stepping down.
Victoria Zach will resign as justice in the Town of Colden, effective at midnight on December 31. She has been in the position since January 1, 2009.
The State Commission on Judicial Conduct determined that this past May, Zach used her influence as a judge and pretended to be a lawyer to help a person in another court who was charged with driving drunk.
As part of her resignation, Zach has agreed to never again seek a judicial office.
Zach’s resignation letter was brief, saying only, “It has been my pleasure and a distinct honor to serve the people and the town of Colden.”
