A young boy in New Jersey says he's angry and sad because he was kicked out of Cub Scouts for being transgender.
Eight-year-old Joe used to attend Cub Scout meetings, but when he tried to officially register with The Boy Scouts of America, they told him he couldn't be a member because he was born a girl. Joe's mom says it's frustrating because the local group had already accepted Joe.
"I'm angry because I had asked permission before even starting, and I got back that it was fine," said Joe's mother Kristie Maldonado.
The Boy Scouts released a statement saying Joe doesn't meet the organization's eligibility requirements. The organization said it defers to information provided about individuals on their birth certificate.
