Trooper in charge of 2015 prison escape manhunt writes book

Posted

Remember when two prisoners broke out of a maximum-security state prison back in 2015?

Well, the trooper who led the effort to find the escaped murderers has written a book about the manhunt.

New York State Police Maj. Charles Guess was in charge of the three-week effort to track them down. Richard Matt was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol SWAT team, while David Sweat was shot and wounded by a state trooper.

The book, Relentless Pursuit: Inside the Escape from Dannemora: New York's Largest Manhunt, tells the story of tracking down the two convicted killer after they broke out of Clinton Correctional Facility in June 2015.

The 56-year-old Guess retired from the state police last year.
