Trout season in Western New York started April 1st, and on Wednesday members of the Department of Environmental Conservation stocked local waterways.
In Niagara County, more than 1,800 Brown Trout were set to be released into into Hyde Park Lake. An additional 540 trout will be put into Gill Creek. In Erie County, a total of 4,000 Rainbow Trout will be put into the Buffalo River in West Seneca, and 4,130 Brown Trout will be released into Lake Erie in Evans. Fish are released into many other local waterways.
Every spring thousands of brown, brook and rainbow trout that are raised at DEC Fish Hatcheries are stocked in 50 streams across Western New York.
