Tuesday, March 29th, marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Special commemoration services are planned across the country and here at home.
The VA Western New York Healthcare System will hold two separate services on Tuesday; one in Williamsville, the other in Batavia.
The Williamsville event will take place at 9:30am at the American Legion George F. Lamm Post 622 on Wehrle Drive. The guest speaker with be John Batiste, U.S. Army Major General (retired), who commanded the 1st Infantry Division from 2004-05 in Iraq.
The Batavia event will begin at 2pm at the Batavia VA Medical Center on Richmond Avenue. The guest speaker here will be Mr. Vincent Schollard, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam (1966-68) as a Navy Corpsman.
March 29th is designated as a day to express gratitude and support for veterans.
Almost 60,000 Americans were killed in the Vietnam War.
