Two Erie County Sheriff's deputies were attacked in two separate incidents Thursday at the Erie County Holding Center.

According to the sheriff's office, inmate Seymour Atkins spat on a deputy as the deputy was making his rounds in a segregation housing unit. Atkins, who has been charged with assault twice before while housed in a detention facility, is now facing criminal and administrative charges in connection with this attack.

About an hour later, the sheriff's office says inmate Orlando Echevarria removed a fire extinguisher from a mounting unit and attacked a deputy in another housing unit. Echevarria is currently locked up on assault and harassment charges and is now facing additional charges because of the attack.

Neither deputy was hurt. Both continued their shifts.
