Two men are facing charges of poaching a buck in a residential area of Cheektowaga.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the men fired a crossbow across Strasmer Drive about 1 a.m. on November 19th at a 10-point buck.

A concerned neighbor saw flashlights in her yard and called police. When officers arrived, the hunters took off, triggering a brief foot chase. Officers were able to catch up with one of the men, the other got away.

The next day, investigators were able to locate the other hunter. Both men admitted to shooting the deer and were issued a total of 13 tickets.

The dead buck was located in a swampy area by the Erie County Sheriff's Office and Deer Search, a non-profit group of volunteers that track dead deer.
