Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are coming to Western New York in July.
But amid allegations that an Uber driver kidnapped and raped a passenger earlier this month in Florida, there are some safety features you should know about before hailing a ride.
- Keep your address private - when setting your pickup location, use an intersection nearby instead of your home address.
- Make use of the GPS - Uber uses location services to track where you are while the app is running. This lets you share your trip with a friend, so someone else knows where you are in real time. But remember, Uber will keep tracking you for a few minutes after you close the app.
- Give honest ratings - if you have a bad experience with a driver, rating them poorly will decrease your chances of being matched with that driver again.
