Hackers targeting presidential campaigns

The Director of National Intelligence said cyber attackers are targeting the presidential campaigns.

James Clapper made that announcement during a press briefing about the ongoing general threat from hackers.

Clapper said it's not the first time hackers have targeted presidential candidates and campaigns.

The government says it dates back to the 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

Clapper says this year it is worse and coming from private groups, like Anonymous, and foreign governments.

"A closed society, like North Korea, is a really hard target for intelligence," Clapper said. "They're just one small piece of the cyber threat puzzle. So, we're not just looking for a needle in a haystack, we're looking for thousands of needles scattered over acres and acres of haystacks. That's why cyber has topped our threat list for the past four years."

Clapper says it's not clear if hackers have seized any sensitive or compromising information.

The Feds are working with the campaigns on their cyber security.
