Texas teacher's 'no homework' policy goes viral

A class of second-grade students in Texas may just discover a newfound appreciation for school.

That’s thanks to a new homework policy decided by teacher Brandy Young, whose letter to her students’ parents is now going viral.

The Godley Elementary School teacher wrote, “After much research this summer, I'm trying something new. Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year."

Young cited research that can’t find a direct connection between homework and improved performance.

She went on to suggest other activities that “correlate with student success” that could be done instead, such as “eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside” and get to bed early.

Parent Samantha Gallagher, whose 7-year-old daughter is in Young's class, posted a photo of the letter to Facebook, where it has since been shared more than 71,000 times.
