USPS wants to close downtown post office

The United States Postal Service wants to close a downtown post office.

The location in question is the Ellicott Station on the 700 block of Washington Street.

"The strategy at the moment is to sell that Ellicott Station Post Office and then replace it with a leased, smaller downsized, right- sized retail only facility," said Greg Lackey of the USPS.

Postal service officials say no jobs would be cut, adding that Ellicott Station has more space than they need.

Officials from the USPS presented their proposal to the Buffalo Common Council on Tuesday afternoon. They want the city's help in finding a better location.
