Victim asks for leniency for Buffalo guard who caused injuries

Posted

A City of Buffalo jail guard is due for sentencing Thursday, in federal court, after admitting to throwing a handcuffed inmate, face first into a metal door.

Matthew Jaskula could face 21 months in prison.

7 Eyewitness News has obtained a letter written to the court by the victim in this case, Shaun Porter.

Porter writes, "Jaskula was just a cog in a system put in place by the City of Buffalo and the Police Department regarding the way they routinely handle inmates."

Porter also explains under his Christian beliefs "you should forgive and forget."

Finally, the victim says he doesn't want significant jail time for Jaskula because "he has a family and has a very young newborn in his household.  I believe that incarcerating him for a significant period of time will only reak (sic) havoc and hardship on his family and specifically his child."

Jaskula is due in federal court at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
