About 1,450 Chautauqua County residents are without power due to an equipment failure at a National Grid substation.
According to a spokesperson for the utility, an employee was performing service on a substation in the Town of Chautauqua Tuesday afternoon, which led to a failure at that.
The outage mostly impacts customers in the towns of Chautauqua and Ellery.
A temporary substation was delivered Tuesday evening, and crews are expected to work through the night to get power restored on Wednesday morning.
The Red Cross has opened a warming shelter for those affected by the outage, located at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 24 East Chautauqua Street in Mayville.
