West Seneca, Buffalo crews clearing ice jam flooding

Weeks of extremely cold weather have left a thick layer of ice on Cazenovia and Buffalo Creeks near West Seneca and South Buffalo, but that ice has started to break apart after temperatures got well into the fifties on Thursday.

On top of that, the forecast of heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours is creating a concern because the extra water could lift and move the ice which could result in ice jam flooding.

7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ed Reilly spoke with officials and residents in the Lexington Green Neighborhood in West Seneca, a neighborhood that saw destructive ice jam flooding four years ago when there were similar weather conditions.

As of Thursday evening, several ice jam breakups have occurred along Cazenovia and Buffalo Creeks.
