What are the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot?

Posted

Think you’re going to win the Mega Millions jackpot? You’re probably not.

You are 100,000 times more likely to be struck by lightning in your lifetime, than winning the jackpot.

Take a coin. Have it land on heads 28 times in a row. That's more likely to happen, than winning the mega millions.

You're more likely to be attacked by shark, or killed by an asteroid, than winning the Mega Millions. .

It's hard not to notice these jackpots getting higher and higher over the years. This is second time a jackpot has cracked one billion. But, with more green, comes worse odds. In 1996, the odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 52 million. The addition of more numbered balls over the years has led to the current odds of 1 in 302 million.
