When will recreational marijuana be legal in New York?

and last updated

It looks like recreational marijuana may be one step closer to becoming a reality here in New York State.

On Monday, the State Health Commissioner recommended that a regulated, legal marijuana program be available to adults in New York State.  Dr. Howard Zucker says the pros of legalizing the drug now outweigh the cons.

This follows a request by Governor Andrew Cuomo in January to evaluate regulated marijuana in the state.  Since then, experts have been evaluating the different variables, including age requirements, taxes as well as public health and safety issues.

The Health Commissioner's report will soon be heading to the Governor for review.

Recreational marijuana is currently legal in nine other states and the District of Columbia.
