Eastern Hills Mall transformation building momentum

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WKBW) — When Uniland Development bought the Eastern Hills Mall facility in March of last year, they announced plans for a major "Town Center", and those plans picked up steam.

On Thursday, Uniland announced that they would be hiring Gensler, the largest architectural design firm in the world, to analyze the 100-acre facility and find out how to make the Town Center idea work.

"Really understand the logic of what we want to do there, but more importantly, what is going to work there" Jill Pawlik, Senior Marketing Manager of Uniland Development, said.

Over the next year, Uniland and Gensler will prepare a full look into how they can transform the mall into a commercial, residential, and public outdoor space.

"It will be a destination for tourists from around the area" Pawlik said.

This change to the mall is incredibly exciting for Bison Billiards owner Michael Shriver, who has seen increased business during his year at the mall.

"We've got about 10% more people coming just from the mall walkers" Shriver said.

If the mall changes do come, Shriver said that his pool hall could see changes in expansion.

"If it turns out the way they're showing, and the revitalization happens," Shriver said, "I could see that happening."
