BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Peace Bridge has officially opened a pedestrian walkway that allows for walking, running, or biking across the bridge.
"It's really the kind of infrastructure investment that we need to see here in New York," New York State Department of Transformation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said.
The new walkway comes from $100 million of a $186 million Peace Bridge rehabilitation project that started in 2016. It was sponsored by both the United States and Canada, and will drastically improve the Peace Bridge through structural replacements, new traffic control areas, railings and light posts. This is all in addition to the walkways.
"This, I think, will be a great area for prosperity in the future for our communities" Fort Erie Mayor Wane Redekip said.
