BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The busy corner at Hertel and Parkside Avenues in Buffalo is getting some long-needed life.

Developer John Daly committed to repurpose the space at 1585 Hertel into a 5-story mixed-use building.

It will house pet-friendly apartments, along with retail space and be close to the new Dash’s Market taking shape just up the street.

People who live in the area say they are excited to see so much new life.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul was on site for the groundbreaking earlier Friday afternoon.

She said this project was born out of the “Buffalo Billion” Governor Cuomo committed back in 2012 when people originally thought the money would go towards larger central projects in downtown Buffalo.

“When the Governor first announced the Buffalo Billion back in 2012 many thought that was just going to be for e big, signature projects,” said Hochul. “It was for a while…but then we realized that there’s entire communities that can be brought back just through some targeted strategic investments.”
