On October 1st, the brand new 52 thousand square foot YMCA will open in Lockport after breaking ground in July of 2017.
"Once people get here and see what we have to offer there's no choice but to be active in this facility" Executive Director of the Lockport YMCA Steve Henshaw said.
The facility, located at 5833 Snyder Drive, will feature a running track, two pools, a gym, state of the art workout equipment, and even a rock climbing wall. The entire project cost around $16 million dollars and took almost twenty years to get built. It will replace the old facility on 19 East Avenue.
"There's a tremendous amount of pride in the Lockport area and they've been trying to get this built for a very long time" Henshaw said.
The facility will bring the equivalent of 42 fulltime jobs into Lockport.
"It's all about the people and the services" YMCA Buffalo Niagara CEO Buddy Campbell said.
People can sign up now as a charter member and we will waive the join fee. Depending on the membership, this could be a one-time savings of up to $75.
