BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Sean Brodfuehrer lives in the North Park neighborhood and, after looking at the vacant lot between Delaware and Colvin, decided a park would fit in perfectly.
Brodfuehrer is a campus planner for the University at Buffalo, his idea for a park includes a walking and bike path, dog park, playground and huge open field.
"There's a lot of benefits to this on the nature side as well as the human side," Brodfuehrer said.
Brodfuehrer posted this to the North Park Community Association Facebook page and received mostly positive responses.
The idea for a park is something that Councilman Joel Feroleto from Delaware District agrees with, but says that it isn't something the city can do right now for one huge reason.
"I think it's a great idea, however, it's important to note that currently the property is privately owned," Feroleto said.
The 11.5 site would have to be purchased by the city, something they don't have the money for right now.
"I don't think the city is in a position to purchase and build a park," Feroleto said. "I wish we were but that's just not the case."
Brodfuehrer knows that this is an uphill battle to get it done, but he hopes that seeing a plan for a park could bring about some action eventually.
"Part of it is just me getting it off my head, and the other part is to see what the community thinks about it," Brodfuehrer said.
