WNY Polish community celebrates Fat Thursday

Posted

The Polish community will gather to celebrate Fat Thursday tonight, with P?czki filled with plum and raspberry jam.  Western New York's Polish Community will celebrate T?usty Czwartek, as it's known, at Protocol Restaurant on Transit Road.

The United Cultural Society is hosting the free event, which starts at 5 p.m.  There will be Polish food, Polka music and of course P?czki.

Locally, P?czki Day is traditionally celebrated on Fat Tuesday, but Thursday is the day the treat is traditionally celebrated in Poland.

In Poland, people will wait hours in line to buy P?czki.  An estimated 100 million will be eaten today, and some Polish bakeries even have limits on how many customers can buy.
