WNY Women Leading the Charge: Merry Constantino

Posted

Before Merry Constantino owned and operated her own industrial design company, she was creating something many kids had growing up.

Fisher Price's Woodtop Workbench was sold across the country and designed by Constantino at her first job.  She still remembers the first day she saw it on store shelves.

"When I walked into Vidler's and saw my product - 50 or 100 of them on a shelf, I wanted to go sign them all," she laughed.  "It was a great way to start, Fisher Price was a great place to work."

Years later, Constantino was ready for a new chapter in her career.  In 1990, she founded her own industrial design firm, Product Logic.  The company works with customers, manufacturers and inventors to develop consumer products, and Constantino says there's no shortage of innovation in Western New York.

"Over the years I've discovered what an incredibly creative community Buffalo is.  Every day I discover a manufacturer that I didn't know existed," she said.

Constantino has designed a wide range of products, and she works with kids in the community to encourage their problem-solving skills.  She and 7 Eyewitness News Meteorologist Andy Parker have hosted the WNY Invention Convention, which promotes creative thinking among students in grades K-8.  7 Eyewitness News is excited to name her as a "Western New York Woman Leading the Charge.
