A Buffalo woman is facing felony DWI charges for drinking and driving with a baby in the car.
Orchard Park Police say 21-year-old Calla Majewicz was falling in and out of consciousness while driving her Ford Fusion on New Taylor Road in the Village of Orchard Park on Monday. There was also an open bottle of alcohol in the car. Police pulled Majewicz just after 5 p.m. and arrested her for DWI.
Police say Majewicz's 18-month-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. This makes the DWI charge an automatic felony under Leandra's Law, which elevates a DWI charge when there is a child under 15 in the vehicle when a driver is charged with DWI.
Majewicz is charged with felony DWI, endangering the welfare of a child, and open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
Her daughter was not injured and was turned over to her grandmother. Child Protective Services will continue the investigation.
