Woman found dead inside Batavia motel was stabbed in the neck: Authorities

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide inside a motel in the Town of Batavia.

Deputies said they discovered a deceased woman Monday afternoon, inside a room at the Sunset Motel on West Main Street Road.

They deemed the death suspicious, and an autopsy concluded that the woman died due to sharp force trauma to the carotid artery in her neck.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office identified the woman as Sherri Colleen Butler, 58, who had been living at the motel since 2014. 

The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
