A 48-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car that was backing up in the East Aurora Tops parking lot.
East Aurora Police were called to the parking lot on Grey Street around 10:00 p.m. Sunday. Police say the woman was hit by a car that was backing up. Police tell 7 Eyewitness News the car was not backing out of a parking spot at the time of the accident. The woman had just exited the store with her son, who is an employee there.
No names have been released, but police say the driver of the car was an 18-year-old man.
TOPS released the following statement to 7 Eyewitness News:
"TOPS Friendly Markets extends its deepest condolences to the victims family. TOPS is assisting authorities with the investigation."
The woman was taken to ECMC, but she later died. Police say their investigation is continuing, and do not believe the driver was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
