Amanda Bernardini has been mixing things up in the kitchen with her mom and grandmother for years.
“We would get together and do Christmas cookies my mom used to do wedding cakes and stuff.”
Several years ago, the 29-year-old began selling sugar cookies out of her home. It's also where she got her first taste of being a business owner.
“It allowed me to get a base of customers to open up on Allen St,” said Bernardini.
It's been about a month now since Bernardini opened “Mundy Cakes” in Buffalo's Allentown neighborhood. “It was very scary, and it would not have been possible without the help of my family and my friends.”
A bulk of her business is custom sugar cookies for most any occasion. “We also sell a lot of cupcakes, we sell pastries for the morning. Pop tarts, cinnamon rolls, we sell donuts now,” she explained.
Bernardini said business has been good so far. Owning her own business though, hasn't exactly been a piece of cake. “It's about taking it one day at a time. I learn something new every day that I didn't know before which helps me moving forward.”
