BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Christmas season for salons is usually a busy one.

"Holiday time for the beauty industry is massive," Julie Maggio, owner of Luxe and Lavish said.

Maggio was elated to hear that her salon along with all others in Orange Zone can reopen on Monday at 50% capacity.

"It's exciting, but it's overwhelming," Maggio said, "I had 15 clients call me right after the announcement it was so overwhelming."

Salons are joined by tattoo parlors, spas, barber shops and similar businesses in opening to 50% capacity. Gyms can reopen at 25% capacity. It's a reversal that came after State data showed 74% of positive cases came from household.

"Over this two month study period we were able to determine that they are not major sources of the spread," Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said.

This led to the change in policy. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said that the return of indoor dining should be next, but there is always a possibility of closures.

"That would only be in the infection rate goes up," Lt. Governor Hochul said, "More people get sick taking up more hospital beds and then the alarms are going off."

It's something Maggio hopes does not happen, as getting to the point of reopening has been a struggle.

"It's like walking on eggshells just to do what you love," Maggio said.
