BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — As of April 2nd, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act will take effect, bringing more benefits to families during the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Those are going to give families paid sick leave and family leave protection for virus related absences so that's something employers should be aware of, so businesses should be aware of those," said James Grasso at Phillips Lytle LLP.

Changes are coming at the state and federal level. The state level ensures that all business, regardless of size, have the same protections. The federal level establishes a base for family time off.

"That law will allow employees to take off 12 weeks to take care of their families if they are out of school because schools are closed," Grasso said.

These changes take effect on April 2nd and extend until December 31st.
