BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — If you live in Erie County, you may qualify for help with rent if you got sick and missed work, lost your job, or had to take a pay cut, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you qualify you can get up to five months of rent covered, or up to $3,500 total.

"If the money is not spent by the end of this year, we have to return whatever isn't spent to the federal government, so if you decide on December 15th I'm going to apply for this, it's going to be too late, so it's very important that people apply as soon as the process begins later this week," said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

The program is getting up to $10 million federal CARES Act.

You can apply for the program starting on Thursday, October 1st.
