HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — After just two weeks worth of racing, Buffalo Raceway had to put its 2020 season on hold. But a few weeks ago, the anticipated approval of horse racing let the staff out of the gate.
"We got the green light when Governor Cuomo announced that horse racing could open," director of operations Jon Cramer said. "We had some plans in place with the Western New York Harness Horseman's Association, and we finalized those."
The stands will remain empty for now. But in addition to providing live action to fans via computers and phones, Buffalo Raceway had an additional group in mind when it came to reopening.
"The horses have been here on the ground throughout the entire time, training and getting ready," Cramer said. "Now they have a chance to show that up and earn some money."
There's a chance for you to earn money, too. Even though Buffalo Raceway isn't hosting crowds, there's a list of outlets through which you can bet on their races here. They'll be racing every Wednesday and Saturday until mid-July.
