JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WKBW) — Starting next Thursday, the Audubon Community Nature Center in Jamestown is holding weekly all-day outdoor classes for kids aged 7-10.

The classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday from September 17th to December 18th.

The Audubon Community Nature Center says kids should only sign up for one of the days since the same class is held on both Thursdays and Fridays.

The classes will provide hands-on, outdoor, inquiry-based learning in the morning combined with free-choice activities in the afternoon.

Students need to come with a face covering, when inside and must have the following

  • snack
  • lunch
  • water bottles
  • insect repellant
  • sunscreen
  • a complete change of clothes
  • and gear appropriate for the weather

The classroom is an outdoor space, with tents to provide shelter if needed.

The morning classes will include hands-on learning based on science classes taught at schools in both New York state and Pennsylvania.

The afternoon free choice activities include the following

  • play
  • discovery
  • investigation
  • a continuation of the morning lesson
  • reading
  • and other outdoor, self-led choices

The program fee is $56, and ACNC members receive 10 percent discount.

Scholarships are also available.

Enrollment is limited and paid reservations are required, by the Tuesday before each class.
